The Arab Blues!
''..a miraculous sonic blaze. It's like receiving a smoldering telegram in the ear from a vivid and ancient world.'' - (Evanston Round Table)
The Arab Blues traces an innovative and ecstatic trajectory between the call of tradition and the response of the diaspora. The basis of their art is the Turath, the canon of classical Middle Eastern compositions and improvisational techniques! Rami Gabriel plays guitar, oud and buzuq, while Karim Nagi plays riqq and tublah, at least. The result is an original expression of immigrant artistry with passionate musicality and a revolutionary attitude.
In Chicago, The Arab Blues was developed by Lebanese-Egyptian oud, buzuq, and guitar player Rami Gabriel through a research fellowship at the Center for Black Music Research, two Illinois Artist grants, and more than a decade as a musicians in the city.
'Chicago inspires us to amplify and expand the sound of our Arab folk traditions. We are discovering the trajectory of our community's music; the future of our past sound. We are participating in this city's musical possibilities' - Rami Gabriel
